Welcome to my little world!

Ready, Set, Action

For those of you that don't know me, my name is Alexis, but you can call me Lexi. I founded The Reel Shot Photography when I was only 18 years old, so the business has practically grown up with me. I'm elated to begin blogging. It's been a goal of mine to document this journey since I can remember and I pray that it reaches young girls like me and other zealous photographers!

Let's Get Reel

I refuse to let my new blog be surface level, so I say we jump to the fun stuff. I'm a retired competitive dancer, exceptional event planner and an avid list maker. If you don't understand that last one, I have 259 lists saved in the notes app on my phone. I'll tell everybody that my favorite color is blue, but I typically only ever wear neutral tones. Although it's true, I can't say that my favorite color is black, because it's technically not a color. Mental health has been a struggle of mine for many years now, however I've learned how to choose joy and have gratitude for the little things in life. It's my sincere hope to share my story on here eventually. Most importantly, I'm a family-oriented, loyal friend, loving girlfriend and an active citizen in my community.

Shooting My Shot

While I initially chose Film Studies academically to broaden my potential professional opportunities beyond photography, college helped me further understand the aesthetic, cultural, historical, and representational importance of cinema. Drawing on my background in photography, dance, film and business, my intent is to direct dance films and showcase them in film festival circuits both locally and nationally. My ultimate goal is to develop a body of work that is recognizably my own and use my influence to inspire the next generation of female filmmakers. Having grown up dancing both recreationally and competitively for 13 years, I cultivated a deep love for dance and desire to integrate this art form into my professional career. With the understanding that my ultimate professional goal will undoubtedly be challenging, I realized that there is still so much for me to personally learn and additional technical skills to develop in the broad area of Film Studies, which is why I decided to apply to UNCW's Film Studies graduate program. While the critical studies side of film is just as crucial as its production counterpart, it is imperative to me that I become both cinematically literate and culturally aware before stepping into my professional career. Gratefully, I've been accepted into the program and can't wait until this fall to begin my elevated studies!
